Carrie Shapiro-Mendoza, PhD, MPH, ACC
Carrie Shapiro-Mendoza is an executive coach who works with scientists, clinicians, and public health professionals taking on greater leadership responsibilities, as well as experienced executives facing difficult decisions, challenging relationships, or new leadership demands. She also partners with organizations seeking to develop capable leaders who make sound decisions, build strong relationships, and lead effective teams.
She brings nearly 30 years of federal service, including 23 years at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As a CDC branch chief and senior scientist, she led national maternal and child health initiatives, multidisciplinary teams, and partnerships. Her background combines scientific expertise with extensive experience leading people, programs, and organizational change.
Carrie brings warmth, curiosity, and candor to her coaching. She listens closely and asks direct questions that challenge assumptions, helping leaders recognize what they may be missing and consider different perspectives. She respects her clients' experience and judgment, leaving decisions in their hands.
Carrie is an International Coaching Federation Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and holds an Executive Coaching Diploma from Emory University's Goizueta Business School. She earned her PhD and MPH from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health and her nursing degree from the University of Vermont. She is an adjunct professor at Emory's Rollins School of Public Health and founder of Shapiro-Mendoza Leadership LLC. Her earlier experience includes serving as a U.S. Air Force nurse and officer, an NIH clinical research nurse, and a Peace Corps volunteer in Paraguay.
